I am betting this will be flamed to eternity for even suggesting something like this, but damn the consequences, I will suggest it anyway.
I suggest restricting the use of Rank emotes to HA only. The reason: they are not relevant ouside of HA. I see people using them to try to get into PVE groups, trying to control RA groups, and most annoyingly using them to support their theory that they are in some way better than everyone else who plays the game (bragging rights and causing player envy). The simple truth is however, those Rank emotes are irrelevant everywhere outside of HA.
I agree that using Rank emotes in HA has its advantages when forming a group, you can prove that you have been on successful teams and probably have an idea what you are doing in HoH. Therefore I am not suggesting removing them from the game, but just restricting them to HA. However, having a Rank emote does not mean you are a superior player compared to others in PVE or 4v4 TA and definitely not in RA. They are completely different strategy wise than the 8v8 format that is found in HA.
I see 2-solutions to this problem:
1) as I have already stated, restrict the Rank emotes to HA where they are relevant OR
2) invent a new Rank emote system to include Rank in PVE as well as 4v4 (TA and RA). In this way those who have enough experience can also show their emotes as well...and Rank would not be the sole property of HA players.
If I had understood correctly, a new Ranking emote system might happen in Factions and I am looking forward to it.
Winning matches in Heroes' Ascent has multiple rewards: fame/rank, sigils and rare items, fame (as in recognition), and getting to know players and guilds for later on in the game (GvG, more Heroes' Ascent, whatever). However, to say that rank should just be used for HA groups is, in my opinion, a little absurd, because that takes away much of it's purpose. Yes, it's meant to show experience/skill level for Heroes' Ascent groups, but it's also a reward for hard work and time spent. You could also say the inverse of this, and say that Fissure of Woe/15k armor or rare weapons/items shouldn't be allowed in PvP, since they're meant to show your experience/time spent/skill in PvE, but that just doesn't make much sense, now does it?
I do agree that rank doesn't mean much, especially outside of HA, but that's no reason to take away from those who have it.
hmm well yesterday I did Abbadon's mouth on my ranger..I was making a barrage group... at first I couldn't get any players, but after a few minutes of spamming my wolf, and endless replies ( "WTH is that", "Where can I buy that", ... ) people started believing me...
I got 3 barrage rangers, a nuker ( for the first part ), order necro, and 3 monks...2 of the monks sucked, because they ragequitted, and the last monk still healed us throught 75% of the mission ( we lost our order necro somewhere 80% I think )
Now the reason why I /not sign, is because you can't have any real PvE backup to prove you know what you're doing...FoW armour can be ebayed ( OK, so does ranked accounts ).
Anyway, it still astonishes me how many PvE players run scared, or come look at /rank ....
A jerk will be a jerk, regardless of whether or not they can flash an emote. I doubt this will solve the problem, but it would give elitest jerks one less tool to use.
But, I'm resistant to the idea. I'm sure that there's honest players that have worked hard for their rank emote (whatever it may be) and don't use it to win arguments. They shouldn't be punished because a few players are jerks and others are gulible.
Location: Guild Hall, Vent, Guesting, PvE, or the occasional HA match...
Guild: Dark Alley [dR]
This solution wont solve anything. who cares if someone in yaks bend or in presearing has an emote. big deal. only time they concern me is when im tryign to either form a HA grp or join one. other than that i ignore them, simple as that.
Adding a pve emote wont do any good either due to the fact that it will only encourage more leechers during missions because they want a cool emote and not have to work for it. aka the people that buy ranked accounts.
I can understand the OP intent and frustration. Being able to flash an emote anywhere can and has been used as a method of harassing other players. I've seen obnoxious players flash their emote in front of a lower lvl player and then publically ask for their emote, then run around town calling the other a noob if they don't flash an emote, or if they do and it is lower. I've even stayed in towns for several hours hoping that they will harass someone who DOES have and DOES flash a higher emote than their own.
Certainly it doesn't matter and many of us don't really care, but some people do get bothered by this and when it happens in a mission spot it can be even worse - even though most of us know that rank means NOTHING to pve.
Perhaps then if it were only disabled in mission spots? Or in towns and mission spots? Or only in towns?
That way we can still have our "bambi/wolf/kitty" spam when we own our AI enemies if we so desire, and not have the problem of less experienced pvp players being harassed in town.
I don't know if I'm right about this one, but I think Anet only gives the possibilty of gaining rank in HA, is cause they want that more ppl will go and play there.
Appart from getting into a ranked team, having an emote is like wearing a golden necklace. It's about the "bling bling".
new rank system is great idea. there are sure equal or even more RA than HA lovers, why only HA have "special" emotes that others cant do if they do not like HA reason or another.
and these are "pvp emotes" why do not experienced pve players cant have "pve emotes"?
ps Countless times i encountered rank emotes in PVE areas to find out that their understanding for even aggro ring is near absolute zero

lol now this is funny. ive played through pve without my emote but i just got mine about a week ago. i achieved mine by doing tons of balance spikes and vim trap. i gained only 10 fame doing iway. the majority was witha friend doin rank 6+ balance. one time we held halls 8 times ina row. but thats not the point. i am trying to say. i guess im trying to say that rank doesn't really mean much like u said but it certainly helps. after i had got that emote i tried some of the older missions again to see how it would do. the thing was i used my ranger to do those missions which is almost as hard to get as it is a mesmer but when i flashed my rank i got my group extremely easy. taking it out of pve is kind of pointless because if your like me once you get ur emote then in ha you can get groups for ha and more wins a lot easier. which means you don't play pve much nemore because it doesn't offer the challenge ha does. neways im gunna have to sign on the second part with adding a pve emote but not taking the emote out of the enire pve. one more thin ide like to add. the fow armour pretty much is like an emote. you flash it and they know you got money.
I think the opposite, I think that Rank emotes should be able to be leveled up somehow and skills set to them so that your Rank Emotes could do battle in towns. I think that would be cool to watch. Someones Rank Tiger Battling someone elses Rank deer, they would have skills and things and it wouldnt be just about who had more Fame.
This is an interesting thread that i have to put a couple of cents in the slot. lol Hopefully there is something coming out of it.
Don't take me wrong. I love "bling bling", and i am sure some players have worked hard for their ranks, emotes, armor and items that they deserve to have them, but there are some people who doesn't deserve to have emotes especially.
If emotes are like "bling bling", then they can be bought very easily like any other items in this game. rank can be bought. That means emotes can be bought also. what is new in this game?
When you have fow armor or rarest weapons at your disposal, you can't use them to attract people to join your group like emotes/ranks for your own advantages. i have not seen anyone that stuck fow armor or cool weapons in my face like emotes. I don't see any thing wrong with fow armor or any kinds of weapons using in HA.
It's a shame to see some pvp players do not have a clue what to do in the pve world and use emotes or ranks to gain pve players' interests in joining his or her group. And people wonder why some people left in the middle of missions.
There should be some sorts of emote regulations using outside of HA. Anet should strip their emotes or ranks for misuses.
